Circuit Breaker

Overview

Circuit Breaker is an isometric 2-player fighting game.  The player is able to select from 3 fighters each with their own unique abilities and movement styles.  For Circuit Breaker, I created the menu system, including all it's artwork, animation, and coding.  As well as the artwork and logic for the in-game UI.

Platform: Windows/MacOS

Engine: Unity

Language: C#

Tools Used: Unity, Photoshop, After Effects

Duration: 8 Months

Team Size: 4-5 Designers

Completed: 2024

Role: UI/UX Designer

This is a flowchart created for Circuit Breaker that illustrates how the player would be able to navigate through the various menus.  The challenge is to make it clear and accessible for anyone to navigate while including all the options we wanted to incorporate.

Features and Assets I designed for Circuit Breaker:

  • Created the Circuit Breaker logo

  • Created buttons

  • Created and animated background and foreground panels

  • Posed characters in character select screen

  • Scripted mouse controls

  • Scripted character selection screen so that choices would be carried over into in-game

  • Scripted audio managers

  • Animated loading screen

  • Animated "3-2-1 Fight" screen

  • Create UI to change character skins

Challenges:

There were a number of challenges that needed to be overcome during the development of Circuit Breaker.  One of those challenges was to create a consistent look throughout the various menus and into to main game.  Originally, the menus had a very dark, almost monochromatic feel.  Over the course of development that changed dramatically to create a bright, kinetic, almost retro look to the menus.

One of the features that fell under my responsibilities was integrating sound.  Initially, this was intended to be managed my a singular Audio Manager, however, after bringing on a member of our team dedicated to editing and integrating sounds, it was determined that creating sub Audio Managers for each of our characters was the best way forward.  Then each of those character-specific sounds would be attached to each one.
